ZAPATA is pleased to announce Mr. Lathan Starnes as the newest member of the firm’s electrical engineering division. As an engineering intern in training (EI/EIT), Mr. Starnes provides designs for a variety of electrical and communication projects (new and retrofit) for infrastructure and building construction. He works closely with the Engineer of Record to create conceptual plans and detailed permit-ready drawings for military, industrial, and commercial clients. His assignments include site visits to document conditions, preparing project specifications and cost estimates, providing design/quality control reviews of drafting components, and inspecting construction projects.

Mr. Starnes graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Prior to joining ZAPATA he held an internship at a composite decking manufacturing company.

Mr. Starnes commented, “As a controls engineering intern, I contributed to multiple projects that improved the efficiency, safety, and reliability of production lines. I was responsible for design documents such as schematics, 3D models, and the bill of materials; and I participated in the fabrication and final installation affecting the production line. The internship was a great start to my career; it will help me as I contribute to ZAPATA’s projects—to understand the big picture from initial conception to final implementation.”

 Welcome to ZAPATA, Lathan!
