Borehole Laser

ZAPATA brings to the field the MDL Cavity Auto Scanning  Laser System (C-ALS) to image air-filled subsurface voids. This unit contains a motorized robotic probe capable of taking distance measurements of up to 500 ft, and collects data in scans, either horizontal, vertical or in 3D, as defined by the operator. The scans are referenced using depth from ground surface and borehole surface coordinates, and sensor orientation is determined by the instrument setup or internal magnetic compass. The downhole probe has a diameter of 2.5 inches, and uses a nose-cone video camera to display obstacles along the borehole and void conditions.
