Crosshole Seismic Tomography

Two- and three-dimensional Crosswell Seismic Tomography (CST) is used for high resolution imaging of the subsurface between boreholes.  This can include mapping geologic interfaces, locating and delineating open voids resulting from karsting or abandoned mine workings, or locating fault zones for engineering purposes.  Tomography is an inversion procedure that produces 2D and 3D velocity and/or attenuation imaging between boreholes from the observation of transmitted first-arrival seismic energy.   Overall, CST methods are very similar to the CAT scans widely performed for medical purposes.   ZAPATA has successfully completed CST surveys for mining and engineering projects across the USA.
