Magnetics
ZAPATA uses the Geometrics 858 cesium vapor magnetometer for a wide variety of applications. This sensor detects anomalies in the earth’s magnetic field, created by induced secondary magnetic fields that emanate from ferromagnetic objects or magnetizable minerals. Magnetic surveys are useful for mapping geologic structure, locating buried metal objects (such as Unexploded Ordnance or Underground Storage Tanks), mapping the extent of burning coal seams in the subsurface, or locating shallow lava tubes. ZAPATA has conducted magnetic surveys across the USA, in Asia and in Africa.
