Subsurface Metal Detection (UXO, UST)
ZAPATA uses Geonics EM61-MK2 time-domain electromagnetic instruments as the primary tool for subsurface metal detection, and has completed Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) surveys around the world from Alaska to Hong Kong to Iraq. ZAPATA also uses this instrumentation to locate Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), buried utilities and the extent of old landfills. Where possible, the instrumentation is coupled with GPS, allowing for accurate positioning of anomalies for later investigation. ZAPATA is also actively participating in the demonstration and testing of the MetalMapper system, which is a state-of-the art UXO detection and characterization platform.
