Water Resources

ZAPATA has experienced and qualified staff to provide comprehensive water resource services. We provide efficient solutions for all water, wastewater, stormwater, and erosion control issues presented to us. ZAPATA works closely with our clients and various permitting agencies to ensure a quality product is developed in conformance with project requirements. We develop comprehensive construction documents, write stormwater reports, develop stormwater pollution prevention plans, create spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plans, and evaluate and retrofit existing fire prevention systems.

Towle Stadium Renovations

ZAPATA provided complete design services for the renovations of the Fort Bragg Towle Stadium. The design focused on the replacement of the recreational playing surface with an artificial infill surface. ZAPATA designed an 81,000 SF synthetic turf field to replace the existing poorly drained grass field, including drawings, specifications, and permits. The synthetic turf design included field lines painted for four distinct sports. A fitness equipment location and layout were planned and designed. Site work included associated parking, drainage improvements, walkways, erosion control measures, utilities, and landscaping. Existing retaining walls and concrete stormwater conveyance ditches were inspected and identified for repairs and replacement as applicable. We also designed an accompanying men’s/women’s latrine building with storage capacity and stadium seating. The latrines will be heated by electric unit heaters with thermostats. Electrical service was designed to include interior lighting, stadium lighting and a scoreboard/message board, and sound system.

Lake Access Upgrades

For this project, ZAPATA completed site layout, grading plans, erosion and sedimentation control plans, final construction plans, construction specifications, and construction management. Upgrades include the addition of two separate parking areas, paved roads, ADA parking, fishing piers, concrete walkways, gravel walkways, swimming area, bathhouse, well, septic system, picnic shelters, picnic tables, and planning for future amenities, including RV camping sites, additional bathhouse, sanitary dumping station, and connecting trails.

High Pressure Fire Protection System Evaluation

ZAPATA provided an evaluation of the firewater storage tanks, water supply systems, fire pumps, 25,000ft of underground high-pressure piping, and fire suppression systems in 14 aircraft hangars. The fire protection systems are approximately 50 years old and have been neglected for decades. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) was used to locate and differentiate the underground high-pressure fire protection piping from domestic water lines and locate isolation valves segregating the high-pressure piping from the hangars. Final corrective measures were identified that would bring the entire fire protection system up to current NFPA and UFC code requirements.
