ZAPATA is pleased to announce Mr. Austin Lukavsky joined the firm as Engineering Intern (EI) focused on structural and security projects for our Federal and utility customers.
Mr. Lukavsky is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he received a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering. His graduate thesis, titled: “Impact of Concrete Mixture Design Parameters on Early Age Characteristics and Long Term Performance of Bridges and Pavements,” used data about the bridges and pavement sections, mix design components and proportions, and no-maintenance condition ratings to determine trends that may allow for better concrete design.
Mr. Lukavsky’s internships included a summer session at the University of Birmingham, England, as a member of a hydrogen powered train research team; and he worked locally for a steel manufacturer providing bolted and welded connection designs.
For three years he served as a coach for UNC Charlotte’s Maximizing Academic and Professional Success (MAPS) Program. This program is geared towards helping students as they make the transition to college life and their engineering degree program. Mr. Lukavsky is also a dedicated volunteer: For seven consecutive years he traveled OCONUS for mission trips, serving as a construction team leader.
Welcome to the team, Austin!
