May 10, 2023David Braswell, PE, has joined ZAPATA’s engineering team. He brings extensive experience in civil engineering and project management to the firm’s growing portfolio of DoD projects. Mr. Braswell develops designs and manages projects that include site plans, roads, utilities, and infrastructure; and he supports commissioning requirements for DoD and commercial/industrial clients.
Mr. Braswell’s expertise includes: stormwater master planning; hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; floodplain mapping; detention pond assessments and retrofits; dam-break studies and water supply studies; water quality monitoring; spillway designs; design of stormwater detention facilities and BMP designs, including Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Infrastructure; capital improvement planning and design projects; water quality/quantity pond assessments and retrofits; dam designs and rehabilitation projects; and pipe replacements. In addition to his stormwater work, he is experienced in site layout, roadway design, and sanitary sewer collection systems.
Mr. Braswell is known as an industry leader for stormwater and water resources projects in Metro Atlanta. His prior work includes flood insurance studies for FEMA and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, analysis, and mapping of hundreds of miles of river basins across the Southeast. He has been an active member of Southeast Stormwater Association (SESWA) and Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP), and he currently serves on the Etowah/Coosa Basin Advisory Committee for the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District.
For twenty years, Mr. Braswell was the owner and principal-in-charge of engineering and surveying services for Braswell Engineering, Inc. Mr. Braswell earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. He is a Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC), Level II Certified Design Professional and is NASSCO-certified in pipe and structure assessments.
In his spare time, Mr. Braswell travels to the West and Northern Plains, specifically to areas where dinosaur and other prehistoric plant and animal remains have been discovered. The aspiring amateur paleontologist participates in paleontological digs across Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas where he searches and unearths dinosaur bones and fossils from the Judith River, Hell Creek, and Lance Creek Formations. While he has found countless numbers of bones and teeth, that elusive dinosaur specimen is still waiting to be found—next time!
