Doug Timbrell, PLA, LEED GA Joins ZAPATA

ZAPATA is pleased to announce Doug Timbrell has joined the firm’s architecture and engineering design team. He is professional landscape architect (PLA) with over 15 years of experience designing residential and commercial developments throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. His broad experience and knowledge of landscape planning and design will play an important role in ZAPATA’s contracts with the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs, major utilities, and industrial/commercial clients.

Mr. Timbrell designs landscape architecture projects that involve a multitude of tasks and responsibilities; this includes everything from master and conceptual plans, design development plans at 30-60-90% completion, and final construction documents—to demolition, layout, grading and drainage, landscape mitigation, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.

He will work in tandem with ZAPATA’s civil engineers to manage civil site design projects and provide QA/QC reviews, value engineering solutions, and construction administration services and design directives.

As a USGBC LEED Green Associate, Mr. Timbrell has experience in green engineering principles and sustainable sites that incorporate solutions such as infiltration trenches, bio-retention swales, rain gardens, and vegetated channels; this includes low-impact development (LID) to maximize the use of land and reduce stormwater runoff.

Mr. Timbrell graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture and a minor in geography, with emphasis on geographic information systems.
