Jalen Battle Joins ZAPATA

ZAPATA is pleased to announce that Jalen Battle has accepted a full-time position as a civil designer.

The former summer intern, who joined ZAPATA in 2023, transitioned into a part-time role while studying for his bachelor’s degree. In 2024, Mr. Battle graduated from the University of North Carolina–Charlotte (UNCC) with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences—and later that year he became a full-time employee.

Mr. Battle continues to work under the guidance of licensed civil engineers, reviewing existing design documents and traveling to military installations and non-military locations to conduct site visits and document existing conditions. He performs calculations and prepares civil site designs for drainage, utilities, and roads for new/retrofit buildings and infrastructure construction, while adhering to erosion control and stormwater management practices.

Prior to joining ZAPATA, Mr. Battle gained on-the-job civil engineering experience through work with other employers; this included conducting Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, producing boring logs, and conducting in-situ and lab soil tests (Proctor compaction tests, field density and soil slump tests, etc.) and construction inspections.

Mr. Battle is currently working on a UNCC master’s degree in civil engineering, specializing in environmental and water resources; but in his free time, he enjoys going to the park, creating embroidery arts and crafts, and playing Uno with his friends and family. A fun fact about him is that he writes in cursive 95% of the time.
