ZAPATA is delighted to welcome licensed architect Mason Hicks, AIA. The architect-designer has 25 years of experience performing full design services for new and renovated facilities, including military installations, warehouses, fueling yard/tank farms, runways and taxiways, medical centers, housing, and operations and administrative buildings. Mr. Hicks received a double-major bachelor’s degree (Design and Construction Science/Management) from Clemson University’s College of Architecture.
Early in his career, Mr. Hicks worked for architecture firms based in Atlanta, GA; later he spent close to a decade working in France providing designs for a company specializing in high-speed rail development and rail transportation. Additional transportation industry work includes airport redevelopment and expansions/renovations, including programming design charrettes and facility planning for fueling operations for the US Air Force to replace existing facilities.
Mr. Hicks also has extensive experience in urban planning and design; for example, he was the project architect for the Hearst Tower (now, Truist Tower), located in downtown Charlotte, NC.
At ZAPATA, Mr. Hicks will continue to lead multi-disciplined design teams and perform design charrettes, life safety analyses, ADA/ABA compliance, and constructability reviews, and incorporates these requirements and sustainable principles into his designs—from conceptual to final (100%) design.
