ZAPATA announced the addition of two Civil Engineering Interns (EIs), Moises Rayo and Audrea DeBerry. Mr. Rayo will be based in the Atlanta, Georgia office; and Ms. DeBerry will be located at the firm’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Civil EIs will be responsible for site plans, project specifications, and cost estimates; this includes design preparation for drainage, utilities, roads, and commissioning requirements for new/retrofit building and infrastructure construction. They will conduct site visits to document conditions, prepare civil site designs that incorporate standardized erosion control and storm water management practices, and review consultant-prepared design drawings and technical specifications.

Moises Rayo
Mr. Rayo recently graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Additionally, he received Engineer in Training (EIT) certification and completed OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety and Health training. Mr. Rayo was previously employed at a geotechnical/environmental services firm where he gained field and laboratory experience as an engineering technician; his assignments included geological and geotechnical logging of soil and rock core samples, oversight of drilling operations, QA/QC, and site reconnaissance. His specialties include: land development, site and amp; civil design, and hydrology. Mr. Rayo is a Young Member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and the recipient of a SAME Atlanta Post scholarship.

Audrea DeBerry
Ms. DeBerry earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology/Technician from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is scheduled to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE Exam) to receive Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Her specialties include: land and paving design, regulatory permitting and zoning review, grading and erosion control. Ms. DeBerry previously served as a civil engineering intern on the City of Charlotte’s LYNX Blue Line Extension project that included the first light rail tunnel. She recalled the day the QC manager commented about her being the first student to walk the entire length of the completed tunnel. This was a special moment for Ms. DeBerry because she never imagined her first internship would involve such an extraordinary project.

Welcome to the team, Moises and Audrea!
