Nick Overby, PE, PMP, DBIA, Joins ZAPATA as Federal Program Director

As ZAPATA expands its architecture and engineering capabilities to meet the growing needs of its clients, we have hired Nick Overby, PE, PMP, DBIA, as Federal Program Director, to provide technical direction and oversight of design-build and design-bid-build programs for military clients.

Mr. Overby earned his Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Florida State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Project Management Professional (PMP), and he was recently certified as a Design-Build Professional® through the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA®).

Mr. Overby began his career as a project manager working on Department of Transportation projects. Later, he transitioned to the Federal market where he managed high-visibility MILCON projects in support of NAVFAC, which included living on-site at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, for over two years. His proven track record with NAVFAC programs includes managing over $1 billion in complex project delivery and supporting critical military construction requirements.

Active in the engineering community, Mr. Overby is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and currently serves as President of the Coastal Carolina Post (2026–2027), following his tenure as the Post’s Vice President (2025–2026). He is one of 20 individuals selected nationally for the prestigious SAME Leadership Development Program (LDP), Class of 2026–2027. He is also an active member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and its National Federal Agencies & Procurement Advocacy Committee.
