We are pleased to announce Mr. Phillip Gaskin joined ZAPATA’s engineering team as an Electrical Designer based in the firm’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mr. Gaskin will be responsible for designing a variety of new/retrofit electrical and communications projects for military, commercial, and industrial clients. He will plan and design electrical systems and components, prepare electrical detailing and specifications for construction drawings, conduct site visits to document conditions, assist in the evaluation of contract bids, and manage electrical components within large-scale construction projects.

Mr. Gaskin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. For his senior design project, Air Crew Position Indicating and Recording System, sponsored by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Fleet Readiness Center East, Mr. Gaskin assisted with firmware development for an internal aircraft crew tracking system. This experience with NAVAIR inspired him to pursue opportunities with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), specifically Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

Prior to joining ZAPATA, Mr. Gaskin spent the past couple of years employed with Norfolk Naval Shipyard providing engineering support for U.S. Naval aircraft carriers. He served as a Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) CVN-71 Engineering Configuration Management Lead, reviewing engineering drawings for technical accuracy and compliance to standards and providing QA/QC for drawing package deliverables. He also was a CVN-75 and CVN-77 I-STALKER Installation C5ISR Engineering Lead, which involved developing electrical block wiring diagrams for the I-STALKER equipment, leading the installation and design communications, and performing on-board ship equipment inspections. Mr. Gaskin’s NAVAIR and NAVSEA experiences will greatly benefit his work on ZAPATA’s NAVFAC and other DoD client projects.
