Seth Hensley Joins ZAPATA

Seth Hensley, electrical designer, is the newest member of ZAPATA’s engineering team.

Mr. Hensley earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering with concentration in machine learning and a minor in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).

Mr. Hensley’s senior design project combined his interest in cars and his knowledge of electrical and computer engineering. He and his teammates designed and built a prototype of an imaging device that would be placed inside a combustion cylinder and used to analyze the cylinder walls, looking at wear patterns and cross-hatching.

Mr. Hensley understands electrical engineering concepts and has experience with printed circuit board (PCB) design. He was part of a team tasked with designing a DC-to-AC inverter that could convert the DC output from a solar panel to a more useful AC signal. This involved designing the PCB and having it fabricated so they could fine-tune the components and test their inverter design.

For his work at ZAPATA, Mr. Hensley will be responsible for designing a variety of new/retrofit electrical and communications projects for military, commercial, and industrial clients. Under the supervision of a professional engineer, he will plan and design electrical systems and components, prepare electrical detailing and specifications for construction drawings, participate in site visits to document conditions, and manage electrical components within large-scale construction projects.

He is currently working on electrical security designs for substation upgrade projects for two of ZAPATA’s major utilities clients, one based in North Carolina and the other in Idaho.

Mr. Hensley enjoys 3D printing and modeling, creating custom keyboards, spending time with his mother and grandparents—and cars (he maintains and drives his grandfather’s old Toyota with 235,000+ miles on it).
