Steven Hughes, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Joins ZAPATA

ZAPATA announced architect and designer Steve Hughes, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, has joined the firm at its headquarters in Charlotte, NC. The registered architect brings 40 years of experience working for notable architectural firms, in addition to operating his own architecture company. He is passionate about teaching others about virtual construction and how to use Building Information Modeling (BIM), especially when designing large and complex projects.

Mr. Hughes serves as architect of record and leads design/production teams to successfully bring design-build and design-bid-build projects to completion. He is currently working on ZAPATA’s Next Generation Squad Weapons project, located at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Missouri, creating digital mock-ups using BIM and virtual reality software to provide the client the opportunity to walk through and visualize the final design.

A glimpse into Mr. Hughes’ design portfolio shows a variety of experience in markets that include mixed-use developments, military, aviation, sports, criminal justice, higher education, and medical facilities. His military work includes projects for the United States Naval Academy, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), and United States Army Corps of Engineers (Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Benning, GA).

Mr. Hughes is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and is registered with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Mississippi State University.
