Charlotte-based ZAPATA was honored with the 2018 Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Small Business Award at the Federal Small Business Conference for the A/E/C industry held earlier in November in New Orleans.
The Small Business Award recognizes SAME members that “achieve outstanding results in support of the Army, Navy and Air Force; [and] company support for the professional development of its employees through participation in SAME education and activities ….”
ZAPATA received its first U.S. military contract in 1994—and joined SAME the same year. ZAPATA’s affiliation with SAME has been unwavering. A Sustaining Member of the Savannah, Fort Bragg, Charleston, Cape Fear, San Antonio, Coastal Carolinas, and Atlanta Posts, ZAPATA fully supports its employees who volunteer, serve on committees, and/or hold board positions at these and other SAME Posts.
Through SAME, ZAPATA networks with other small and large business partners and clients; shares best practices; learns about the latest industry trends; hires new employees; attends Post meetings and conferences; and forms long-term business relationships—all with a common goal of serving the project needs of U.S. military clients.
“ZAPATA applied for SAME Small Business Award in 2013 and received an Honorable Mention,” recalled Senior Vice President Marty Ray. “It is a truly an honor to be selected the 2018 winner. But above it all, our experiences with SAME have been thoroughly rewarding, whether we win an award or not. The Society of American Military Engineers is a fantastic organization.”
