Paul Tyma, PE, RCDD, Joins ZAPATA

ZAPATA welcomes Paul Tyma, telecommunications designer, to its engineering team based in the firm’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

At ZAPATA, Mr. Tyma will be responsible for designing a variety of new/retrofit electrical and communications projects for military, commercial, and industrial clients. He will plan and design telecommunications systems and components, prepare detailing and specifications for construction drawings, participate in site visits to document conditions, and manage telecommunications components within large-scale construction projects.

Mr. Tyma holds a Master of Science in engineering physics from Appalachian State University, North Carolina; a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Clemson University, South Carolina; and is both a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD). Additionally, he has developed concepts, procedures and processes for fiber optic components and related installation, which resulted in multiple granted and provisionally filed U.S. patents, as either sole inventor or joint inventor.

Mr. Tyma has over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry having supported fiber optic network installations and specifications across multiple markets and industries; this includes private enterprises (business, universities, healthcare facilities and other related industries), as well as public market telecommunications carrier networks, including long-haul telephony, CATV, and MSO.

He is an expert in outside plant fiber-to-the-home network design, as well as local area network (LAN) building and campus design. His experience also includes low-voltage design and specification and fiber optic network bonding and grounding.

In his spare time, Mr. Tyma enjoys time with his family, landscaping and running.
